The Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine (CBEAM) is an exclusive bird and exotic animal veterinary hospital with the expertise to provide compassionate, competent care for all species of non-traditional pets located near Seattle, WA. We are available for both scheduled appointments 7 days a week and are the only exotic-exclusive hospital to offer 24-hour emergency care. Our center is dedicated to providing optimal medical care for birds, small mammals, reptiles, and other exotic pets. This requires specialized treatments, diagnostic protocols, state-of-the-art equipment, and facilities designed for these species. Our doctors’ advanced training in exotic animal medicine make them uniquely qualified to offer wellness, emergency, and critical care for avian and exotic pets. We work hard to to provide clients and patients with the best possible veterinary care at an affordable cost.
The Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine is seeking a motivated candidate with an interest in joining our fantastic team as a part-time or full-time Overnight Veterinary Assistant or Technician. We are a full service emergency veterinary hospital that treats all types of animals except for domestic dogs and cats, horses and cows. Expect to see and treat many unique species of pets with a caring and committed team and experienced, capable doctors! Duties associated with this position include (but are not limited to):
*Obtain and record patient histories.
*Care for boarding and hospitalized animals, including cage cleaning, exercising, feeding, observation for signs of illness, laundry, bathing procedures, and keeping animals clean.
*Ensure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition.
*Feed animals as prescribed by attending doctor, recording appetite +/- and signs of illness.
*Release animals to their owners as directed by the doctor or technician. Ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed, and looking better than on arrival.
*Receive animals to be admitted for hospital care as directed by the doctor or technician.
*Ensure that each animal has proper identification, including name tags, cage cards, and medical record in the appropriate place.
*General cleaning of treatment floor when needed to maintain clean, odor-free, and attractive environment.
*Restrain patients for procedures performed by doctors.
*Maintain a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude when interacting with pet owners.
*Assist with stocking and requesting needed hospital supplies.
*Assist the client services representatives when necessary, carrying food for clients and retrieving food or other supplies for CSRs and clients.
*Prepare medications and prescriptions for dispensing as directed by the doctor.
*Perform routine lab testing and prepare labs for outside diagnostic examination.

There is a definite opportunity to advance your skills and acquire more responsibility and experience as you demonstrate proficiency in each of these areas. We are a teaching hospital and value people who are curious and proactive seekers of knowledge. Please note, this is an overnight position only. Base wage starts at $18.50 per hour for assistants. Wage is negotiable dependent upon whether you are an assistant or tech and your experience. Overnight differential is an additional $2.00 per hour from 12am – 6am, and employees also receive quarterly bonuses based on practice growth.
